Writing Portable Websites (Part 1)

One of the most common reasons people have asked for my help in the past is because they have just moved their website to either a new domain, server or webhost and nothing works. Granted, this can be down to differences in the server configuration that are beyond your control, but a little thought when creating your site can mean that if or when you need move domain or host, it can be a relatively painless experience.

Here we'll look at a couple of basic ways to plan for unforseen changes, in addition to making sure that these and also planned changes have a limited effect on your users.
